Welcome to the Gang

Welcome to the Book Group 2007.  First of all I want to thank you all for signing up.  I know this community isn’t going to win any awards for the most members but I think we can become quite a little family.  I think together we can create a wonderful collection of reviews in the memories for people to access when they need to.  Books are such powerful things and having the ability to share them with others who are passionate about them is something I think we’ll all enjoy.

I know that having a book club online isn’t as easy as in person, but I don’t think it has to be as complicated as we imagine.  First of all, reviews will be the main section of it.  Any book you have read, you are welcome to write a review of and post it on the community.  Now, I thought it would be fun if we picked our favourite author as like a posting alias; so every time you posted a review, in the subject box you would put your author’s name so everyone would know who it was.  I shall put up a claims list if people think this is a good idea.

The other idea was to how a normal book group works.  We all read a certain book and discuss it.  Now, I know it’s not always easy to get books but I’m sure we can figure it out.  Libraries are always really helpful and we could even sort out a postal pass on if people had trouble getting it.  So yes, we all have a time limit to read a book and then on a set date we have an internet discussion on a thread I set up.  Of course dates and time limits will be decided as a group, and I shall set up a thread for suggestions of books we should read.

As time progresses, I hope so does the community.  Hopefully we’ll have other thing going on apart from the above.  If anyone has any ideas, feel free to suggest them in a mod post.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in contact.

Oh, and also feel free to pimp the community around.

Thank you for joining

Not a huge list of rules really, just some basic ones to keep everyone safe and happy.

All reviews must be put under a cut.  It might be easier for readers if the title and author were left out though so they could see from a glance what it is.  If there are any spoilers in the review, a warning must be placed before the cut.  It might also be helpful if you put the author and title in the tags when you post reviews.  That way it's easier to find and memory.

Although people may have different points of views and a healthy discussion is welcome, I don’t want any bitchy and nastiness.  Taking different positions on a book is fine, but make sure that’s all it is.  I don’t think I really need to say this, but for any new members, who join later, it’s there and they know.  I don’t want anyone unhappy here.

Of course. I thought about that, but also having a suggestion box for books to go into the shortlist.

Speaking of time limit, I thought a month. What do you think?

Cool. It mostly depends on how thick the book it and the time of year. Cause obviously exam time, people will need more time.

Yeah. I thought about challenging ourselves and also looking at different genres
